ALIGARH (ALIGARH)

Set in a city of Uttar Pradesh and based on true events, the plot revolves around Professor Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras who teaches Marathi at Aligarh Muslim University. He was sacked from his position of Reader and Chair of Modern Indian Languages, on charges of homosexuality. A sting operation was conducted by a TV channel which showed him in an embrace with a rickshaw puller, at his house inside the campus.

Director Biography:

Beginning his career with a Television Show Khana Khazana (1993–2000), Hansal Mehta directed his first feature  ‘Jayate’ in 1999 which was selected for the prestigious Indian Panorama 1999-2000 and screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Hyderabad. He soon followed it up with ‘Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!!’ (2000) based on the issue of migrants in Mumbai. In a career spanning two decades, Hansal has directed some world class films like ‘Shahid’, ‘City Lights’, ‘Aligarh’ and many others. His films have been screened all over the globe at various film festivals. Winner of national and international awards, Hansal Mehta is one of India’s renowned film directors, a Producer, Writer and an Actor.
